This is my hurricane Rita Mustang. I was going to purchase this car from my parents neighbor about a month or two before hurricane Rita came through but, the owner changed his mind. I don't blame him, he purchased the car in 1980 and restored it shortly after. I was in high school during this time, he is the one I when to for help while building my 1970 Mach 1 when I was 15 getting it ready for when I turn 16 and getting  my drivers license. Whished I had that car back!!!! Anyway after Rita his shop was partly turn up and he decided to sell it to me. My lucky day! Only $5,200, I think this was a good price.

The car is pushed forward right now. One of the roof joist had fallen on it, only a small ding and scratch. No big deal!

After removing some of the lose boards and propping up the rest we were able to push it out.

OK, the rims need to go!

I've always like the 1967 and 68 Mustangs but, my choice would be the 1969-70 Mach 1, Boss 302, or Boss 429. Ok may be a Shelby!

All factory, nothing special. No dish brakes here! OK, the car looks really good in the pictures but to tell you the truth she a 15 footer. A year or two after it was painted (back in the 80's) the paint developed bubbles. So if you stand back 15 feet she looks great! Not worried about that, I don't like Red myself.

It's a 289 with a 2 barrel FOMOCO carburetor. I think it has 500 hp. Yeah right! After years of setting up and no use the gas tank rusted out. Luckily he replaced it about a year ago. We squirted some gas down the carb and after 4 revolution it fired up. The car drives pretty good for the age. The front suspension never was anything to write home about. The 3 speed transmission is fun to drive, the only thing is I keep grinding reverse. This is because I'm use to the 4 speed top-loadeder, first is where reverse is on this one.

What I want to do, well wish list;

Remove the old front suspension and install a Mustang 2 suspension.

Install a 4.6L engine out of a 2003 Mach1 or Cobra Mustang.

New paint.

The Ford 427 Tunnel Port is off because Terry and Jerry just picked up a Mustang for $1500 that would best fit the bill.

I have more pictures and information at this link. http://www.meter4it.com/427_Tunnel_Port.htm

Here on is what I have done so far;

Installed Rims 4/19/06. They kind of look like the Shelby 10 spokes but not really. To pull this off I had to use 1.25 inch wheel spacers. The 2005 Mustang has offset rims compared to the 1968. I purchased the wheel spacers from CJ BARGINS off eBay. At present he has 100% feedback, I don't know this guy but he is quick to respond emails and to ship. My father was a machinist for 30 years and he was impressed by the workmanship.

Update: I had some vibrations due to the spacers and have found that I should use HUB CENTRIC type spacers. Please search the web Hub Centric spacers if you decide to go this route.

I'm really pushing to install the Heidts Mustang II front suspension. www.heidts.com

I plan on purchasing it from a local dealer " Sachse Rod Shop ". I stopped by the shop today 3/22/06 and talked to Mike and some others. They were very nice and helpful as they were on the phone two weeks ago. All the other upgrades are OK but, this is the climax of all upgrades. I think just abut everyone will agree. OK, maybe not the OEM people. I was one of those guy's at one time but, NO MORE.
